Painting & Drywall Repair

Wall Repair and Painting: Patched, Primed and Painted in One Visit

Hang & Patch fixes the wall and paints it in the same visit: holes, cracks and leak-stained ceilings are patched first, then primed and painted so the repair disappears into the wall. No second contractor, no waiting for a painter after the patch dries. We're locally owned, not a franchise, and we've been serving thousands of customers in DC, Maryland and Northern Virginia since 2016.

Patch and paint, handled by one team

Most wall damage needs two trades: someone to fix the drywall or plaster and someone to paint it. When those are different people, the patch often gets painted before it's properly primed, or the touch-up never quite matches. We treat the patch and the paint as one job, so the person who feathered the compound is the one who primes and paints it.

That makes this the right service for a room that needs both: a hallway full of anchor holes before a repaint, a bedroom with a doorknob hole and scuffed walls, or a ceiling that needs a patch and a full coat after a leak. For a single hole or crack, see our drywall repair service; for painting only, see interior painting. To see when a damaged section needs new board rather than a patch, read patch vs. replace: how to decide.

What's included

What a patch-and-paint visit covers

Patch, then paint the wall

Holes and cracks repaired, sanded and primed, then the full wall painted so there's no halo around the patch.

Rooms with years of wear

Anchor holes, dents, nail pops and scuffs fixed across the room before a fresh coat on walls and trim.

Plaster walls in older homes

Cracks taped with setting compound, loose plaster re-secured, and a primer and paint suited to the wall.

Before a sale or a move

Move-out and pre-listing patch-and-paint lists finished on a timeline, ready for photos and showings.

Trim, doors and caulking

Baseboards and door casings caulked and painted so the whole room looks finished.

Color matching

Your leftover paint if you have it, or a matched color, painted corner to corner when touch-ups won't blend.

Painting after drywall repair

A patch only disappears once it is painted properly. Fresh joint compound is far more absorbent than the painted wall around it, so we spot-prime every repair first. Skip that step and the patch "flashes": it dries duller or shinier than the rest of the wall and shows the moment light hits it.

Then comes the real decision: touch up, or repaint the wall? A touch-up can work when you have the original paint, it hasn't faded, and the finish is flat or matte. Eggshell and satin finishes, older paint, or a wall that gets strong side light usually need a full coat from corner to corner, so there is no halo around the repair. We tell you which one your wall needs before we start, and we do it in the same visit.

Repainting ceilings after a leak repair

After a leak, the ceiling usually needs two things: the damaged board repaired, and the whole ceiling repainted so the new section doesn't show as a brighter square. Once the board is fixed, we seal the stain with a stain-blocking primer and roll the full ceiling plane in a flat ceiling paint. For what goes into the repair itself, see water-damaged drywall and ceiling repair.

Patch and paint before a sale or move-out

Listing photos and move-out inspections pick up exactly what a patch-and-paint visit fixes: anchor holes from art and TVs, dented corners, scuffed hallways and the outline of furniture on the walls. We work from your list or your agent's, fill and prime everything, then repaint the walls that need it so rooms read as clean and even in photos. For a fuller pre-sale list, see our pre-listing repairs.

Questions

Patch-and-paint FAQ

Do you patch and paint on the same visit?

Yes. We patch the wall, prime the repair and paint it on the same job, so you don't need to book a separate painter.

Do I need to repaint after drywall repair?

Almost always, at least over the patch itself. Bare compound must be primed and painted or it will show. Whether you need the whole wall repainted depends on the paint: with matching leftover paint in a flat finish, a touch-up often blends; with eggshell or satin, faded paint or strong side light, we repaint the wall corner to corner.

Should I paint the whole wall or just the patch?

If you have the original paint and it hasn't faded, a touch-up can blend. Otherwise we paint the wall corner to corner so the patch doesn't show as a different sheen or shade.

Can you repair a water-damaged ceiling?

Yes, once the leak has been fixed. We cut out damaged drywall, replace it, prime with a stain blocker and paint the ceiling so the repair blends.

How long does a patch-and-paint job take?

Small jobs are often finished the same day. Larger patches need drying time between coats, so some rooms take a second short visit.

What if my house has old paint?

If your home was built before 1978, we flag possible lead paint and recommend testing before any sanding or cutting of painted surfaces.

How much does a patch-and-paint visit cost?

It depends on the size and scope of the repair and how much painting is needed. Text photos to (202) 438-6197 or request a free quote for an exact price.
